Anthropology exam hints
From KstructIB
Read the question very carefully. If it asks you write about different theories about something, do so. If it asks you to refer to ‘ethnography’, it means more than one. If it asks you to only refer to one ethnography, you need a lot of information about it. If it asks you to refer to different types of societies, you must choose from varying forms of subsistence (e.g. hunting and gathering, horticultural; farming, industrial).
When referring to an ethnography, ALWAYS state where, when, and the name of the anthropologist. If more than one anthropologist studied them say that too. The reason for this is that for Part 2, of the 20 mark, 8 are for properly contextualizing.
Make a quick note-form plan of the essay before you start.
Begin your essay by defining the important terms. Not just the terms in question, but those that relate to the answer.
When a question asks you to compare, you need to mention both similarities and differences, This might be between 2 different societies or between two groups within a society.
The answers overall need to show that you have in-depth knowledge of 3 or 4 societies.
Only write what’s directly relevant to the question. Do not repeat yourself.
Make sure that when you’re stating an opinion, that it is made clear that you recognise that this is opinion, not fact.
