Well, that’s one very long running Mac related rumour fulfilled. How long until we get a new Apple PDA?
While I think the move to Intel will work out well for Apple in the long run, I for one will be holding off buying a new Mac until the Intel based ones are out.
This is not, of course, the first mac to ship with an Intel CPU in the box. The PowerMac 6100, in some configurations, shipped with with a PC compatibility card which basically let you boot DOS (or windows versions up to 95 I think) on a 486DX2 processor, and switch between the two running machines with a keystroke. Very cute, but not exactly earth shattering. Amusingly, it looks like the Intel CPU was faster than the real computer CPU in MHz terms (66 vs 60).
Anyway, it’s time to stop living in the past on all fronts it seems.
